Dr. Gary Sears Memorial Scholarship
(Senior Veterinary Student Award)
In 2024 family and friends of Dr. Gary Sears established this endowed scholarship to award worthy senior veterinary students wishing to launch a veterinary career within the boundaries of Districts 6 and 7 of the Nebraska Veterinary Medical Association. Dr. Sears loved the sandhills, beef cattle, and the wonderful cattlemen and women that lived there. He would love nothing more than to have ambitious young veterinarians continue to provide quality services to them.
Eligibility
Applications will be accepted from any senior veterinary student provided that the student:
- has graduated from a Nebraska High School
- has an anticipated graduation date by July 1 of the current year
- has an employment agreement with an established veterinary practice in the above-stated region of Nebraska
- whose job description includes 50% or more time commitment to cow-calf practice
Financial Consideration
A student selected to receive this scholarship will receive a minimum of $ 1,000. The Foundation, at its discretion, may increase the award to a maximum of $ 5,000 if funds are available.
Applications
- Applicants must have a completed Veterinary Student Application. If one was submitted the previous fall, it need not be updated.

Deadline
The application and accompanying documents must be submitted by March 15th
Successful applicants will be informed by May 1.
